Biography

A veteran of the North Carolina underground rock scene (where he was best known for his work with the Antiseen), vocalist/guitarist Gideon Smith founded the Dixie Damned in 1999 with the help of his old associate, drummer Boo Creepy, formerly of Animal Bag. A self-titled EP quickly emerged, but Smith really took things to the next level when he embarked on a pilgrimage to legendary Sun Studios in Memphis, where he laid down demos that would form the backbone of the group's full-length debut, Southern Gentlemen. Released in 2001 by Small Stone Records, the album also saw fit to introduce additional Dixie Damned members: lead and slide guitar player Mike Keleher, rhythm guitarist Brad Fury, and bassist Jose Carlos Wright.
