Biography

With their 2004 self-titled debut, Bristol, England's Gonga set about resurrecting the mangled, sun-dried corpse of stoner rock for yet another romp into the new millennium. Featuring singer Joe Volk (a ringer for Kurt Cobain, incidentally), guitarist George Elgie, bassist William Smalley, and drummer Thomas Elgie, the band first came to the attention of Portishead producer Geoff Barrow, who signed them to his own Invada label in 2003. The aforementioned debut emerged the following year and was later released in America by Tee Pee Records.
