Hailing from Albany, NY, stoner/doom outfit Greatdayforup took their name from a Dr. Seuss book and first formed in 1999 -- initially with a sound comparable to minimalist alt-rockers Helmet, due to founding guitarist Mike Vitali's brief involvement with Helmet offshoot Handsome. A gradual shift in style occurred over the course of regular touring and several independent releases, including 2004's God Loves a Sinner EP and 2005's split EP with Jersey stoners Solace, and, at last reckoning, Greatdayforup featured vocalist Michael Diaz, guitarists Jay Sunkes and Mike Vitali, bassist Brendan Slater, and drummer Jared Krak.
