Biography

Philadelphia's Hail Social features Davye Hawk (vocals/guitar), Matt Maraldo (drums), Dan Henry (bass), and Richie Roxas (guitar). The roots of the indie rock foursome took hold when Hawk and Maraldo befriended one another at work. Both were eager to start making music, but the reserved, self-conscious Hawk was reluctant to share his years of songwriting with a single audience. After a bit of nagging and encouragement, Hawk and Maraldo set up shop for what would become Hail Social. With Henry and Roxas in tow, Hail Social recorded four demos and a 7" prior to joining producer Brian McTear (matt pond PA, Lefty's Deceiver, the Trouble with Sweeney) for the recording of their debut album. The self-titled effort was issued on Polyvinyl in summer 2005 and captured a catchy dance sound similar to the likes of Franz Ferdinand and Bloc Party. Tours with the Secret Machines and Interpol followed into the fall. The band's sophomore album, a disco-tinged effort called Modern Love & Death, was released two years later.
