Biography

Citing such diverse influences as The Weavers, Judy Garland, Ella Fitzgerald, Johann Sebastian Bach and the Beatles, Judy Barnett began her singing career in London at the ripe old age of thirteen. As diverse as her influences, Barnett's performing experiences have included being a member of a repertory theater company, a steel band, authoring a musical and performing with rock and calypso as well as jazz groups. She opened up a popular jazz club "J's" which she operated and where she performed from 1985 to 1993. As a performer and a songwriter, Barnett has garnered seven MAC Jazz Vocalist awards and ten ASCAP Songwriting prizes. She has released two albums. The first, Judy Barnett, was released in 1995 and the second, Swingin', in 1998 have been well received by critics and public alike. Barnett continues to perform with her band Jazz-A-Teria frequently at venues in and around NYC.
