Biography

California's Le Coupe is Stacy Michelson and Josh Moore. They formed soon after meeting in the late '90s. The band's first recording (the song "Our Way") appeared on the Shelflife Records compilation You Make Me Smile in 2000. The band quickly turned heads with their clean, pretty pop songs. They simply mixed guitar, drum machine, and bass layered with Michelson's soft-spoken voice, and the combination produced results. The All I Hear single was released on Shelflife in 2000. Le Coupe went on to donate songs to compilation CDs on Contact Records, Just for a Day Records, and a CD that was included with an issue of Japan's Beikoku Ongaku magazine. The band's self-titled debut full-length CD was released on Shelflife in late 2001. On the CD, they tapped friends Chad Calder and Dwayne Palasek for bass and trumpet duties, respectively, while other musicians added keyboard and guitar work. Le Coupe also contributed their version of the song "Pretending to See the Future" on Shelflife's 2001 OMD tribute disc. They've been favorably compared to St. Etienne, Ivy, and Club 8.
