Biography

The brothers Berlin have been rocking and rolling since they were old enough to walk. While growing up in the suburbs of St. Louis, Lillian, Eve and Bosh Berlin didn't exactly fit in with their peers, in particular Lillian. While his schoolmates were wearing Polo and watching the Cardinals play ball, Lillian was out vandalizing and worshipping the works of Jack Kerouac, Jim Carroll, and Sylvia Plath. He wasn't one to follow the rules and didn't care about the circumstances either. The only thing that mattered was playing music. He picked up the guitar at an early age and his younger brothers learned the bass and drums, respectively. Once Lillian Berlin turned 18, he, Eve and Bosh left the stagnant side of St. Louis behind for the competitive edge of Los Angeles. They had a notebook full of songs, not to mention a nasty cool attitude. The Living Things were born. Gigs in and around that sleazy scene soon followed while countless offers from labels started flooding in. The one thing the Living Things were concerned with was not being categorized by their sound or their look. DreamWorks understood that and signed the Living Things before 2002 came to a close. The Turn in Your Friends & Neighbors EP, which was produced by Steve Albini, was released in December 2003. Another Albini-produced effort, Black Skies in Broad Daylight followed in February 2004, and a year later the band returned with the Jive/Zomba effort Ahead of the Lions.
