Biography

Chicago indie rock outfit Lying in States came together with Justin Trombly (bass), Fergus Kaiser (guitar), Ben Clarke (vocals/guitar), Mark Benson (drums), and Jeremy Ohmes (keyboards) in 1999. Streamlining a quirky punk-inspired sound akin to Drive Like Jehu and the Constantines, Lying in States toured the Midwest for the next two years. They gained plenty of exposure by sharing the stage with Rainer Maria, Hot Hot Heat, Rye Coalition, and Denali. The Bewildered Herd EP was issued on Harmless Records in 2002. A year later, the band joined engineer Scott Adamson (Joan of Arc, the Arrivals) at Semaphore Studios in the Windy City for the recording of Lying in States' proper full-length. Most Every Night was released in January 2004.
