A Canadian folk group whose eclectic repertoire extended from traditional Celtic ballads to covers of Sly and the Family Stone funk jams, Mad Pudding was formed in Vancouver, British Columbia during the late '80s by singers and multi-instrumentalists Andy Hillhouse and Amy Stephen, fiddler Cam Wilson, and bassist Richard Ernst. After adding drummer John Hildebrand in 1993, Mad Pudding recorded their debut LP, Bruce's Vegetable Garden, a year later; Ernst exited a short time after, and was replaced by French-born bassist and pianist Boris Favre. The quintet's second album, Dirt and Stone, followed in 1996; Rattle on the Stovepipe appeared a year later, and in 1999 Mad Pudding resurfaced with Grand Hotel.
