Biography

Michael Barrett began his music career as the drummer and songwriter in Guppyboy, a Burlington, VT, band formed at the University of Vermont in 1991. Guppyboy relocated to New York City and reformed as the Essex Green. In the Essex Green, Barrett plays bass and shares singing/songwriting duties. He has also toured and recorded with the Ladybug Transistor (Merge Records) and the Sixth Great Lake (Kindercore Records). Michael Barrett brought his debut solo album, Couches And Carpet, (Planting Seeds Records) in the year 2001. Like fellow New Englander's the Mendoza Line, Michael Barrett brings us boy/girl vocals and an obvious love and knowledge of pop music from every decade. British folk, orchestral pop, and even a little country, for anyone familiar with the Elephant Six collective, this stuff is going to be right on target.
