Biography

Bringing together some of the East Coast's strongest indie musicians, Mosquito is the union of Sonic Youth's Steve Shelley, Jad Fair of Half Japanese, and Tim Foljahn from Two Dollar Guitar. The result is a sound that veers unexpectedly from noise to country to blues to jangly garage music. Formed in 1993, they released their first albums that year: Oh No Not Another Mosquito My House Is Full of Them! on Psycho-Acoustic and Time Was on Smells Like Records. 1994's Cupid's Fist stayed more consistent, offering up Fair's unconventional lyrics over country-acoustic music that echoed the sound of Two Dollar Guitar.
