Biography

Tosti was most noted for his singing and song-writing abilities. He set English, French and Italian texts to music quite successfully. Some of his more famous works in English were "Forever," "Goodbye," "Mother," "At Vespers," and "That Day." Italian songs included "Non m'ama piu," and "Lamento d'amore." He came to the attention of the future Queen of Italy when he composed a ballad for a concert in Rome and she solicited him as her teacher. Prior to this he had served as a secondary master in Naples after studying with Mercadante, Conti and violin with Pinto. His compositions were characterized with flowing melodic lines and his songs were met with great favor.
