Biography

A Canadian jazz performer, composer, arranger, and sideman, Richard Underhill got his start as a founding member of the combo the Shuffle Demons. He has been a solo artist as well, releasing his 2003 Juno Award-winning debut, Tales from the Blue Lounge, in 2002. He was also nominated for the Grand Prix award at that year's Montreal Jazz Festival. In 2005, Underhill released his second album, Moment in Time. His third full-length, Kensington Suite (out in 2007), was a critical success and earned Underhill another Juno Award nomination, for the 2008 edition of the event. He has also led a number of other groups, including the Richard Underhill Jazz Quintet, Astrogroove, and the Funk Explosion.
