Biography

The brainchild of Petersberg, Ontario-based brothers Dom and France (Dominic and Francois Paterson), Soma Sonic had a smooth, trip-hop sound that also had elements of down-tempo ambience. The brothers had partnered before -- in the trance/techno project ADSR, which Dom was a member of from 1993 to 1995 and which France managed from a distance while living in New York City and working as a fashion stylist and art director. In 1996 the brothers decided to pursue Soma Sonic full-time and began work on the album that would become Future. Originally released on their own Subsonic Recordings label, the album was later picked up by Abstrakt Reality and issued by them in 1999. A beautiful introduction to their sound, the album also features the vocal contributions of Katalin Kiss and Amanda Weiss.
