Biography

Swedish death metal band Bereaved have been active since 1998, when they were formed by bassist Mikael Nilsson and guitarists Henrik Tranemyr and Johny Westerback. But, due to recurring musician turnover -- particularly a never-ending procession of short-tenured vocalists -- it wasn't until five years later that fans finally got to hear them, and that was via their contribution to a Blind Guardian tribute album. By then, Westerback had decided to assume lead vocal duties as well, and, with drummer Tobhias Ljung then firmly installed, the quartet's next demo, "Inverted Icons," was the one to land them a record contract with Black Lotus Records. Bereaved's debut album, Darkened Silhouette followed in 2004.
