Biography

Eclectic, world music-influenced free jazz group the Sea Ensemble was a husband-and-wife team of bassist-clarinetist Donald Rafael Garrett and pianist-cellist-flutist Zusaan Kali Fasteau. Their collaboration began in 1971 in the city where they met, San Francisco. The duo began their world touring and traveling one year later, visiting and performing in many European, Eastern European, and African countries and, at one point, touring with Archie Shepp. Recordings of the Sea Ensemble include the 1976 ESP release We Move Together and Memoirs of a Dream, a reissue on Fasteau's Flying Note label. Jay Oliver and Glenn Spearman were also members of the Sea Ensemble for nearly a year.
