Biography

Though better known as a leading film director, Vishal Bharadwaj started his career as a music composer in Bollywood. And like his films, his music gracefully transcends the thin line between cerebral and commercial audience and become milestone that sticks to the public conscience for years to come. His admirable use of simple yet hummable melodies and poetic lyrics compliments his finesse of composing according to the situations in the films. Born to the lyricist Ram Bharadwaj in the Bijnor district of India, Vishal collaborated with filmmaker Gulzar on projects like Jungle Book, Alice in Wonderland and Guchche. He later composed the music for the film Maachis which won him the Filmfare Award in 1996. Maachis was the first big project for Vishal and it became a huge success for its unconventional music that was fresh and heady. Vishal received more projects and kept up with his melodious and exhilarating style with hit music of Satya, Hu Tu Tu and Chachi 420. The music of Godmother won him the National Film Award for Best Music Direction. Later he composed music for his own films like Makdee, Maqbool and Omkara.
