Biography

Georgia indie pop quartet We Versus the Shark defy pigeonholing with their volatile, yet uniquely accessible blend of raw dance beats, guitar-driven funk and lo-fi/art rock splendor. Luke Douglas Fields (baritone/microtone/guitar/vocals), Samantha Erin Paulsen (guitar/vocals), Jeffery Daniel Tobias (bass/keys/vocals), and drummer Scott Philip Smith work as a single unit, eliminating the need for a traditional frontman by utilizing their multi-instrumental skills; trading instruments and taking turns on vocals throughout their marathon live sets. Favorably compared to everyone from the Minutemen to Gang of Four and XTC, their self-produced debut, Ruin Everything!, was unleashed in January 2005 as the inaugural release for the local (co-founded by the band) Hello Sir label.
