Biography

A leading light of the Michigan space-rock scene, the Dearborn-based duo Windy and Carl comprised guitarist Carl Hultgren and bassist Windy Weber. Hultgren first began recording instrumental guitar-drone pieces in 1992, self-releasing a cassette, Portal, before teaming with Weber; by the end of 1993 they issued a single, "Watersong," on their own Blue Flea label. In 1994, the group later issued an EP, Drifting, which was credited to Once Dreamt. Reissuing Portal complete with new material in 1994; the LP Drawing of Sound followed a year later, and in 1998 the duo resurfaced with Depths. The following year, the duo collaborated with synthesist Greg Gasiorowski and released the album Five Way Mirror; in 2000, they appeared at Terrastock and recorded their fourth album Consciousness. Windy & Carl also run a record store in Dearborn, MI called Stormy Records.
