Biography

Zulutronic is only one of a dizzying abundant cachet of names used by Cologne-based producer/Pharma label boss Cem Oral, who has also released records as G104, Jammin' Unit, and, together with longtime partner Walker, Air Liquide. Zulutronic is a collaborative project between Oral and fellow Cologne-based producer Roger Cobernuss, aka Kerosene; both share credentials as part of the influential Structure label group, an important component in the experimental wing of Germany's early-'90s dance music underground. Although apart the pair's material has ranged from hardcore acid, techno, and trance to downtempo breaks and even beatless ambient, Oral and Cobernuss with Zulutronic focus on mid- to up-tempo experimental hip-hop and electro, bringing an artful, scientific economy and a new-school weirdness to minimal, funk-fueled breakbeat. While most of the group's material (including the full-length LP/CD Mission Zulu One) has appeared on Oral's own Pharma label, the group have also contributed tracks to compilations on Mille Plateaux (Electric Ladyland, Vol. 3) and Virgin (Macro Dub Infection, Vol. 2). The pair have also played a number of live gigs under the name, including club and festival appearances. [See Also: Jammin' Unit]
