All Music Guide:

Washington State's Bell formed in 1994 after singer/songwriter/guitarist Vanessa Veselka returned home from busking in Europe and met drummer Andy Miller, who left his band at the time to play and write with Veselka. Guitarist Damon Romero, Miller's friend and former bandmate, also joined the lineup. The band began recording and playing local dates, and released their first album A Clear Sense Of Beauty on Y Records in 1996. The following year Bell acquired a permanent drummer, Susan Larsen, and in 1998 released the Perfect Math EP on their own Yeah It's Rock Records and Bootleg on the Yikes label. New Kind Of Rome appeared in 1999.
