The Birmingham, Alabama-based hard rock quartet Brother Cane was formed in 1990 by singer/guitarist Damon Johnson and bassist Glen Maxey; originally called Chyld, the group's line-up was soon complete with the addition of guitarist Roman Glick and drummer Scott Collier. After signing to Virgin Records, Brother Cane issued their self-titled debut LP in 1993, with the first single "Got No Shame" becoming a major hit at AOR radio; a short time later, however, Maxey quit the band, at which time Glick assumed bass duties, and with new guitarist David Anderson they soon returned to the studio to begin work on 1995's Seeds. Wishpool followed in 1998, launching the hit "I Lie in the Bed I Make."
Brother Cane is an American hard rock band that released three albums in the 1990s. The band was formed in 1990 by singer/guitarist Damon Johnson and bassist Glenn Maxey. Joined by guitarist Roman Glick and drummer Scott Collier, Brother Cane released their self-titled debut album in 1993. After the departure of Maxey, Glick switched to bass while the band added a new guitarist, David Anderson. Their song "And Fools Shine On" from their second album, Seeds, stayed at #1 on Billboard Rock Charts for six weeks and was included in the soundtrack for Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers in 1995. The group disbanded shortly after the release of their final studio album, Wishpool, in 1998.
That same year, a live version of the band's song "Lead My Follow" was featured on a Birmingham, Alabama charitable album titled Live in the X Lounge. The album was released to benefit United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Birmingham, an organization in the band's hometown.
Lead singer Damon Johnson has been involved in numerous projects since the demise of Brother Cane, including Red Halo, Slave to the System (a band that also features long-time Queensrÿche drummer Scott Rockenfield), and Whiskey Falls. Johnson was touring guitarist for Alice Cooper from 2004 to 2011, at which time he departed Cooper's band to join Thin Lizzy. Guitarist David Anderson now plays with ARS (Atlanta Rhythm Section) when they tour.
In 2005, Brother Cane reunited for 2 concerts. One of the shows was released as a two-disc set with never-before-seen backstage, offstage, concert footage (a 40-minute show as the opening act for Van Halen in Fresno from '95) and interview content. Brother Cane reunited for a brief tour in 2012 and plan to perform periodically in the future.
