All Music Guide:

Coming together in 1995 in Columbus, OH, Frolic, a trio consisting of guitarist Jonathan Beard, singer Kelly O'Brien, and keyboardist Matthew Chinn (the latter are also a married couple), specialize in electronic compositions further informed by Beard and O'Brien's own talents. The group's sound tends toward the darker or moodily mysterious, leading them to become favorites among goth/darkwave fans as well as followers of artists such as Enya or Robert Rich. Initial recordings featured guitar more prominently, but sessions in 1997 by O'Brien and Chinn, who had moved to Florida, brought in the newer focus on synth-based work. The resulting debut, Permafrost, captured the balance between the two sides of the band, with the follow-up in 2001, To Dream, Perchance to Sleep, further exploring the trio's intriguing, attractive fusions.
