First formed in Poughkeepsie, New York before moving to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Genghis Tron was a noise, electronic, IDM, grind, doom, ambient trio that got together in 2004. Their myriad of styles, which were made on-stage and on-record without the aid of bass or drummer, was hard to miss in the post-rock and post-metal world, and leading label Relapse eventually signed them up. Members Mookie Singerman (vocals and keyboards), Hamilton Jordan (guitars, drum programming), and Michael Sochynsky (keyboards and drum programming) released their first album, Dead Mountain Mouth on Crucial Blast in 2006, and followed that with their debut for Relapse, Board Up the House, in 2008. The band spent much of that time touring the U.S., and Singerman was a regular contributor to metal and extreme music magazine, Decibel.
Genghis Tron is a three-piece experimental metal band formed in Poughkeepsie, New York, USA, and currently based in Brooklyn, New York and San Francisco, California. The band signed to Relapse Records after releasing two recordings on Crucial Blast.
Genghis Tron has toured with such bands as Behold... the Arctopus, Converge, Kylesa, Gaza, The Dillinger Escape Plan and The Faint.
The 2008 album Board Up the House was named a "Critic's Choice" by the New York Times and was also awarded the title "Album of the Year" by the magazine Rock Sound.
As of late 2010, the band members have decided to take a break away from the band for a while, but have assured fans in a Myspace message that they will be back with new material when they start playing together again.
The band is noted for its creative combination of various types of metal and electronic music. Although often classified as cybergrind early in their career, Genghis Tron has since developed a more diverse sound, which includes elements of IDM, doom metal, electronic and ambient, in addition to their core style of synth-laden metal.
Forgoing both a drummer and a bass guitarist, the band utilizes computer-based sequencers such as FL Studio and Ableton Live, as well as multiple synthesizers (Moog, Alesis and Novation) to produce its distinct sound.
