All Music Guide:
Standing firmly on the middle ground between the quirky, staccato attack of Modest Mouse and the spirited, arena-ready roar of Arcade Fire, Los Angeles-based indie rock outfit Grouplove came to fruition in the late 2000s around the talents of Hannah Hooper, Christian Zucconi, Sean Gadd, Ryan Rabin and Andrew Wessen. New Yorkers Hooper and Zucconi, through sheer kismet, forged a friendship with the latter three members while attending an art residency in Greece on the island of Crete. Before returning to their myriad homelands, the future quintet began hashing out plans to meet up again and put some of the music they had been working on to tape, resulting in whirlwind trips to Rabins Los Angeles studio, where the five friends decided to make their relationship official. Grouploves debut EP, Mirrors, was released independently in 2010.
Wikipedia:
Grouplove (also typeset as GROUPLOVE) is an American rock band that formed in 2010 by Hannah Hooper, Christian Zucconi, Sean Gadd, Andrew Wessen and Ryan Rabin.
Ryan Rabin produced their debut EP which was originally released independently by themselves, and was later re-released by Canvasback/Atlantic with a bonus track. Their debut album, Never Trust a Happy Song, was also produced by Rabin and was released worldwide on September 13th, 2011.
Grouplove formed out of a friendship between the five members of the band. Hannah met Christian in New York after hearing, and enjoying, his music. She invited him to an artist commune in Crete she was leaving for later that week. Ryan and Andrew, who grew up together, and Sean were also visiting the commune. The members all met each other in 2008 at the commune. Their friendship formed quickly, but they did not form the band until a year later. They played their first show at El Cid in Los Angeles on May 10, 2010. Their song "Colours" was ranked number 12 on USA TODAY's alternative chart and their song "Tongue Tied" was featured in an Apple iPod touch commercial in 2011.
