All Music Guide:

A thrash metal outfit from the Bay Area, and it's not 1985? Not a wholesale surprise, really. And given the reexamination of the style as the first decade of the 21st century came to a close, it's really no surprise that bands such as Hatchet had a fair amount of impact on the reborn scene. Formed in the midst of the area's legendary punk and ska geography, Hatchet first made a name for themselves with some well-received shows in 2006 and 2007. An appearance on the Thrash Metal Warriors compilation led to a pair of big events, the first being an opening slot for the Possessed, and secondly -- and, arguably most importantly -- a record deal with Metal Blade, inked for real in 2008. Their debut full-length followed shortly thereafter. Released in May of 2008, Awaiting Evil drew some positive responses from the genre's critics.

Wikipedia:

A hatchet (from the Old French hachete, a diminutive form of hache , 'axe' of Germanic origin) is a single-handed striking tool with a sharp blade used to cut and split wood. Hatchets may also be used for hewing when making flattened surfaces on logs; when the hatchet head is optimized for this purpose it is called a broadaxe.

Hatchets are taxonomically differentiated from hand axes by the addition of a hammer head and/or a head 1–3 pounds (500 to 1,500 grams) in weight. However, to most of the world a hatchet and an axe tend to mean the same thing.

Hatchets have a variety of uses, such as tasks normally done by a pocket knife when one is not present. The hatchet can also be used to create a fire through sparks and friction. Hatchet throwing is increasing in popularity.

Brought to Canada by Acadian Frontiers Men, hatchets became a valuable tool for earlier pioneers. Matthew Guignard termed the hatchet the Old Guinart as it became a necessity for everyday life.Template:Citation need
