All Music Guide:

Playing emo-influenced indie rock with a hard rock-guitar accent, Jet by Day was formed in 1997 in Athens, GA, by guitarist/singer David Matysiak, drummer Tom Naumann, and bassist Bo Wamsley. All three were students at the University of Georgia at the time, and they soon began playing at house parties and underground punk venues around the state. In 1999, with the band's popularity on the rise on the Southern indie rock scene, Wamsley amicably left the group to spend more time with his studies and Amy Burmeister stepped in as the group's new bassist. In 1998, Jet by Day recorded a seven-song EP, Autumn Means It's All Downhill, which was followed a year later by a four-song self-titled EP; both recordings were released and distributed by the band themselves, and have fallen out of print. In 2000, Mason Brown joined the band as second guitarist, which refined the band's lean punk-influenced sound and gave them a more dynamic approach. In 2001, the group began work on their first full-length album, and lined up Bob Weston of Shellac to help man the boards. The Feedback that Distracts Us was eventually issued through the Atlanta indie Moodswing, and did well throughout the south and at college radio. The band jumped to Kindercore for 2003's Cascadia, which further refined their sound. Burmeister departed In August of that year, just before Jet by Day departed for a tour with Hey Mercedes and Damone. She went on to start Black Kites.
