Lori Barth is an American songwriter, recording artist, record producer, and journalist. She is the Senior Editor of The Score for the Society of Composers & Lyricists. (1)

Biography

Lori Barth, who was born in Los Angeles and raised in the San Fernando Valley, studied music and wrote songs starting at a young age. She had a monthly column for Movie Teen Illustrated at the age of 16. After graduating from California State University, Northridge, with a degree in history and journalism, she became the Assistant Fashion Editor at California Apparel News. She continued in journalism as the fashion and entertainment editor at Petersen Publishing's Star Magazine. (1)

At that point, Barth switched careers, pursuing music full-time as a writer, performer and guitar teacher. As the latter, she coached Barbra Streisand for A Star Is Born, Amy Irving for Honeysuckle Rose, Christina Applegate, Beau Bridges, Dave Navarro from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and others. (2) Barth had her own music school for over thirteen years with journeyman folk artist Bud Dashiell. After closing the school, she became the editor for the quarterly journal of the Society of Composers & Lyricists, The Score. (2) She earned two Deems Taylor Awards for her work as editor of The Score. (2) An advocate for copyright and intellectual property rights for composers and lyricists, she has served on the Board of Directors of the Society of Composers & Lyricists for over 26 years. (3) Barth also free-lanced as a writer for other publications, including contributing restaurant reviews for On The Boulevard and food articles for the Los Angeles Times. (1)

As a songwriter, Lori Barth has written prolifically for records, film and television. She earned three platinum records for singles that she co-wrote for the Australian group Girlfriend and a gold record for her work on Marta Sanchez's Mi Mundo (which included the song "Arena Y Sol"). (1) Other projects were co-writing "Momma, Where's My Daddy" (nominated for a Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues) with Keb' Mo' for his CD Just Like You, co-writing "Left of Center" with Chris DeStefano for the Netherlands' pop idol Dewi, and co-writing the theme song for the Oscar-nominated World War I French film Joyeux Noel entitled "I'm Dreaming of Home", with composer Philip Rhombi. The latter song was performed at the 2008 Musique & Cinema Festival with a 100-voice choir, was chosen for the 90th commemoration of the Battle of Vimy Ridge, and was selected for the British Armed Forces Tribute. Other accomplishments include writing for Sarah Geronimo, Mark Bautista and Clair De La Funete, and contributing songs featured on the television show Brothers & Sisters, Smallville and in HBO and Lifetime movies. As a performing artist, Lori Barth recorded (and co-wrote all of the songs) for her pop/samba CD Sensuel in 1996. (4) She is currently working on a second solo project. (1)
