Biography

The Dead Science came together in late 2000 after losing its original moniker, the Sweet Science, to an emo band. Sam Mickens (vocals, guitar) and brothers Jherek (contrabass) and Korum Bischoff (drums) had been playing with a number of jazz and experimental groups before self-releasing the Glactose EP under their original name. Pulling from a variety of influences, the band has a sound with one foot in avant-garde jazz and the other in the noir pop and rock played by U.S. Maple or Nick Cave. Absolutely Kosher released the group's proper debut, Submariner, in 2003. Sam Mickens and Jherek Bischoff continued to moonlight in the experimental band Xiu Xiu.
