Biography

Belgium's Thou mixes dreamy, dramatic pop with post-trip-hop beats. The six-piece group features vocalist/organist Does de Wolf, vocalist/guitarist Bart Vincent, guitarist Pim de Wolf, bassist Bart Depoortere, drummer Geert De Waegeneer, and arranger/sonic manipulator Hans Rabaey. The group's first two albums -- 1997's Une Poupee Pour M'amuser and 1998's Hello in This Sun led to comparisons to Bristol's pre-eminent trip-hop duo, Portishead, a connection that was reinforced on their third album and U.S. debut Put Us in Tune. The group recorded at Portishead's home studio, borrowing their discarded rhythm tracks for their own songs. PJ Harvey guitarist/producer John Parish, violinist Richard Hunt, Roni Size bassist Si John, and Belgian singer Mauro also collaborated on Put Us in Tune, which was released by SeeThru in early 2001.
