Biography

Retsin's Cynthia Nelson joined inspiring singer/songwriter Anna Padgett in 2000 to form the indie country-rock group Naysayer. The bedroom-pop sounds of their debut album, 2001's Deathwhisker, showcased Pagdett's talent as a songwriter but also the duo's work in progress. Nelson's Retsin mate, Tara Jane O'Neil, also joined Naysayer for the album and never left. A sophomore effort, Heaven, Hell, or Houston, was released in 2002 and introduced a bigger sound from the band. Matthew Sutton and Freakwater's Wink O'Bannon provided larger guitar work, while cello player Noel Hawley provided more texture to the world of Naysayer.
