South Normal was formed in Chelsea, Michigan. Led by the explosive vocals of Nathan Mackinder, drummer Shannon Boone, bassist Jeremy Mackinder and guitarists guitarist Ben Vermeylen and Jason Schaller rounded out the powerful quintet. Taking cue from classic rock and radio-ready indie rock, the band's energetic, melodic sound impressed from the start. After two independent releases, the critically-acclaimed Emotion Picture was released in 2001, finally bringing the band's big sound to a larger audience. The follow-up Book of Matches was released after a marathon recording session with legendary producer Michael Lutz. The album exposed the band beyond its Midwestern base. 2004 saw the release of the band's first live DVD, Nowhere To Be Found, on Deluxe Records. The disc featured live footage of the band performing in Detroit, Michigan.
