Group Members: Neko Case, Neko Case & Her Boyfriends
All Music Guide:
Led by brothers Dallas and Travis Good, the Toronto-based Sadies honed a distinctive sound, taking influence from traditional country, surf music, and garage rock. After earning notice and adding backing singer Neko Case, the group issued its debut LP, Precious Moments, in 1998. Tremendous Efforts followed in early 2001, teaming them with Breeders/PJ Harvey producer Steve Albini for the second time. A year later, Stories Often Told marked their first album without Albini, placing Blue Rodeo's Greg Keelor in his position. The Sadies produced themselves on 2004's Favourite Colours, with Keelor, Nick Luca, and Chris Shreenan-Dyck handling the engineering duties; Robyn Hitchcock made a guest appearance as vocalist and lyricist on one track. After gaining more recognition while backing Neko Case on tour -- which resulted in a live album, The Tigers Have Spoken -- the Sadies recorded an album in collaboration with R&B legend Andre Williams, one with Mekons frontman Jon Langford, and then released a live album of their own, In Concert, Vol. 1, in 2006. Soon after, in September 2007, Yep Roc released the band's rousing seventh studio album, New Seasons, followed by a 2009 classic country/honky tonk collaboration with X's John Doe called Country Club. In 2010, the Sadies returned to the studio for the full-length Darker Circles. In 2012, Night & Day surfaced, a second collaborative album with Andre Williams. The sessions for Night & Day had begun in 2008 amid Williams' troubles with drugs and the law, but were rounded out a few years later once he'd cleaned up his act and gone sober.
Wikipedia:
The Sadies are a Canadian rock and roll / country and western band formed in 1994 in Toronto.
Background[edit]
The band consists of Dallas Good, Travis Good, Sean Dean and Mike Belitsky. Dallas and Travis are the sons of Margaret and Bruce Good, and nephews of Brian and Larry Good, who are members of the Canadian country group The Good Brothers.
In addition to their own recordings, the Sadies often collaborate with other artists, such as Blue Rodeo, Jon Langford, Gordon Downie, Andre Williams (on the 1999 country-influenced Red Dirt and the 2012 release entitled "Night and Day"), and have recorded, written and toured extensively as backing band for singer Neko Case. They have also toured and recorded with Jon Spencer and Matt Verta-Ray as Heavy Trash, as well as John Doe. They consider themselves honorary members of The Mekons. The Sadies' music is featured in many films and television shows, for example, Adult Swim's 12 oz. Mouse. An instrumental performed by the band can be heard in episode 5 of season 1, during a scene in which Rhoda the bartender is murdered. On May 18, 2010, The Sadies released Darker Circles CD/LP through Outside Music and Yep Roc Records. Darker Circles was a shortlisted nominee for the 2010 Polaris Music Prize and in 2012, won a juno award with Mike Roberts for best video..
The Sadies are collectively members of the group The Unintended, along with Greg Keelor of Blue Rodeo and Rick White of Eric's Trip/Elevator. They also make multiple contributions to Garth Hudson's 2010 album Garth Hudson Presents: A Canadian Celebration of The Band, by performing "The Shape I'm In", and also by backing Neil Young, for "This Wheel's On Fire", and Mary Margaret O'Hara, for "Out of the Blue". All performances on that album featured Hudson on keyboards.
On June 19, 2013, The Sadies announced that their next studio album, Internal Sounds, will be released on September 17 through Outside Music. The song "The First 5 Minutes" can be streamed while we await the album release.Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page, but the references will not show without a {{reflist}} template (see the help page).
