All Music Guide:
With an image as enigmatic as the Residents or Gorillaz, the "story" of electro robo-love creation Wolfgang originated in the early '80s when a robot was built by a video game mastermind named William Jennings Wellworth. The plan was for Wolfgang the robot to write pop music after acquiring an input of the Human League, Soft Cell, Thomas Dolby, Heaven 17, and other '80s new wave artists. The idea failed and Wellworth gave up on the robot. It eventually was found years later in a dumpster in Brooklyn and brought back to life. The Wicked Truth About Loving a Man was released by Hypnote in April 2007. Live appearances from the mysterious Wolfgang have been nonexistent.
Wikipedia:
Wolfgang is a German male given name traditionally popular in Germany and Austria. Its earliest known bearer was a tenth century saint. The name is a combination of the Old High German word wulf, meaning "wolf" and gang, meaning "path, journey". Grimm (Teutonic Mythology p. 1093) interpreted the name as that of a hero in front of whom walks the "wolf of victory". A Latin gloss by Arnoldus Emmeramensis interprets the name as Lupambulus.
