All Music Guide:

Youth Lagoon is the outlet of Boise, Idaho's Trevor Powers' most personal hopes and fears, which he sets to dreamy yet tenacious lo-fi pop. Powers posted his first Youth Lagoon song online in May 2011, sparking buzz that resulted in a deal with Fat Possum Records. His first album, The Year of Hibernation, dealt with psychological dysphoria and arrived that September. The more expansive Wondrous Bughouse, which drew comparisons to vintage Pink Floyd and the Flaming Lips and revolves around "the struggle between the physical and the spiritual world," was released in March 2013.

The singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist might almost be talking about the two albums he has recorded under the name Youth Lagoon. 2011's The Year of Hibernation was an indie-rock moonshot, resonating with wide audiences precisely because of how personal its winding guitar lines, sighing synths and fragile vocals could sound. New album Wondrous Bughouse was recorded with producer Ben Allen (Animal… more »

Who Are…PAWS

By Marc Hogan, Lead News Writer

PAWS released an EP early last year that was mastered by Shellac's Bob Weston, and their scrappily melodic, garage-rock approach wouldn't have sounded out of place on a vintage episode of MTV's 120 Minutes. But drummer Josh Swinney quickly rejects the idea the Scottish trio is part of any kind of '90s revival. "It's just music that young people are making that's evolving," he says.
