Zane Lewis (born 1981) is an American contemporary artist who lives and works in New York.
Lewis frequently blurs conventional distinctions between painting and sculpture sometimes presenting his work in an installation-type format. For example, Lewis used a unique drip painting technique in which cascades of poured paint leaked from canvases and spilled onto the floor of the exhibition space. Christopher Bollen, Editor of Interview Magazine, called this method of Lewis' "making art bleed." "The artist allows the gash to “bleed” brightly colored paint (which he has applied), in order to express a transient and dying glamor."
Lewis was included in the Wall Street Journal article titled "The 23-Year Old Masters," along with Ryan Trecartin. He has exhibited in the Whitney Museum of American Art Party alongside such artists as Terence Koh. And featured as a "Groundbreaker" artist in the Whitney Museum groundbreaking ceremony for the new location in lower Manhattan.
Lewis is also a distant cousin of James Dean.
