Summary
Independent-minded Senator John McCain provides his thoughts on courage and its necessity not only on the battlefield or in politics, but in everyday life, particularly in the wake of 9/11. McCain writes eloquently about people's obligation to stand up for what they believe in, and takes as examples such leaders as the Burmese activist Aung San Suu Kyi (who received the Nobel Peace Prize) and Civil Rights luminary John Lewis. He also writes, as he has before, about his experiences in Vietnam and the acts of courage he witnessed. Uppermost in McCain's message is the concept of sacrificing for others--an act of great courage that can often go unheralded.
