Since returning to active playing in 2004 after a career as a boxing manager, pianist Charles Farrell has released eleven CDs, played with Ornette Coleman, and received a composers grant from The Hillsborough County (Florida) Arts Council (resulting in the CD Cass Street Bridge, Tampa, Florida 2007). He is a Boxing Writers Association of America prize winner. His most recent CDs, “Cats & Dogs” and “Live in Cambridge,” featuring his collective trio with saxophonist Evan Parker and drummer Jim Schapperoew, were recorded in September, 2011. Two solo piano albums “Weather” and “8029 North Nebraska” were also released in 2011.
