Alan Bennett joins forces with the acclaimed Medici String Quartet for a prestigious world premiere first performed at the Harrogate Festival in August 2001. Hymn is a series of prose pieces about Alan Bennett's early experiences of music: the hymns he learned as a boy, the violin his father never managed to teach him and the concerts he went to in Leeds. Bennett's musical memories are produced and set to music by the celebrated film composer, George Fenton. This release was recorded live in front of a specially invited audience in the BBC Radio Theatre on 28 November 2001.
