The Next 100 Years

By: George Friedman

Narrarated by: William Hughes

George Friedman, founder of Stratfor, has become a leading expert in geopolitical forecasting, sought-after for his thoughtful assessments of current trends and near-future events. In The Next 100 Years, Friedman turns his eye on the future. Drawing on a profound understanding of history and geopolitical patterns dating back to the Roman Empire, he shows that we are now, for the first time in half a millennium, experiencing the dawn of a new historical cycle:

•The U.S.-Jihadist war will conclude-replaced by a second confrontation with Russia.
•China will undergo a major extended internal crisis, and Mexico will emerge as an important world power.
•There will be at least one global war occurring toward the middle of the century, but armies will be much smaller and wars less deadly.
•Technology will focus on space — both space travel and energy resources.

Grounded in Friedman’s unmatched grasp of both historical and contemporary trends, The Next 100 Years is a compelling, realistic, and eye-opening portrait of the future.

Very insightful

Very thoughtful and interesting. Just look at his predictions for Turkey and what is happening now, including the story Time just did. Makes you think.

Compelling Visionary Work

I've read many projections by futurists that go out pretty far onto a limb to make a point. This definitely does not fall into that category. Friedman paints a very believable, compelling vision of the future through his analysis of past and current events, as well as technology trending. Obviously, not all of his detailed predictions will come true and he readily admits that. However, Friedman makes a number of extremely insightful points that really make you think hard about your own assumptions. Highly recommended.

Thought-provoking

DanLikesClassical

Friedman is both historian and futurist as he weaves his way through the 21st century showing that we don't need to ignore history to be doomed to repeat it. Friedman sets the stage by examining the past 200 years to identify the geopolitical DNA each nation posesses and how it defines each nation and its inevitable patterns of behavior. The future, then, becomes an exercise of identifying the timing of political trends and the interactions between different world actors as their roles on the global stage wax and wane over the coming decades of the century. This is a thought-provoking book whose ideas resonate...a really extraordinary read.
