Seriously...I'm Kidding

By: Ellen DeGeneres

Narrarated by: Ellen DeGeneres

I’ve experienced a whole lot the last few years and I have a lot to share. So I hope that you’ll take a moment to sit back, relax and enjoy the words I’ve put together for you in this book. I think you’ll find I’ve left no stone unturned, no door unopened, no window unbroken, no rug unvacuumed, no ivories untickled. What I’m saying is, let us begin, shall we?

Funneling DeGeneres directly into a listener’s head
Regardless of a viewer’s tastes or stance on wacky dancing, TV star Ellen DeGeneres is bound to win them over: She’s a charming, funny and magnetic personality. If DeGeneres ran for president, she’d probably win.

But her medium is a visual one, and that particular kind of charisma doesn’t necessarily translate into a great reading or listening experience. And indeed, some of DeGeneres’s appeal derives from her elastic smile, duck-feather hair and loopy physicality, but all of it? Hardly. Seriously…I’m Kidding demonstrates, in short chapters covering every topic under the sun, that DeGeneres’s appeal transfers easily to book form. It helps, of course, that the author pulls double-duty as the book’s narrator, which has the practical effect of funneling DeGeneres directly into a listener’s head (yay!) Topics covered range from meditation to get-rich-quick schemes to saunas (“My eyelashes are sweating”), and everything in between. Which, it turns out, is quite a lot.

eMusic’s Funniest Books

By eMusic Editorial Staff, eMusic Contributor

Some books are just meant to be heard. Humorous books might elicit chuckles on the page, but they reach new levels of funny when read aloud by narrators (often the authors themselves) whose timing and inflection can elevate simple texts into high comedy. Check out the titles below for hilarious performances by NPR darlings, dishy celebrities, BBC legends, and Daily Show cast members, past and present. more »
