Narrarated by: Barry Bostwick

Now abridged for young people, Flags of Our Fathers is the unforgettable chronicle of perhaps the most famous moment in American military history: the raising of the U. S. flag at Iwo Jima. Here is the true story behind the immortal photograph that has come to symbolize the courage and indomitable will of America.

In February 1945, American Marines plunged into the surf at Iwo Jima-and into history. The son of one of the flag raisers has written a powerful account of six very different men who came together in the heroic battle for the Pacific’s most crucial island.

Fist off--don't download this if skipping tracks annoy you. There are at least five tracks that contain fairly significant skipping. This has happened to me in two of the three audiobook downloads from eMusic. Hopefully they'll fix this in the future. I haven't seen the movie yet, so I can't really speak to any comparisons but although this is an interesting story I found the writing to be quite flat. The author's reluctance and/or inability to throw anymore light on his father's wall of silence is either truly mythic or shallow--I'm not sure which.
