An avid audible book 'reader,' and paranormal fantasy fan, I'm finding this book very difficult to listen to. first of all, the author insists on using words that no real person would ever use -- such as 'benighted,' to describe a piece of antique furniture. This happens over and over again and is very distracting. Second, she writes things like "the scent floated in on a beam of sunlight." It's very distracting and takes me right out of the story. and third, the narrator sounds rude and petulant, as if everything and everyone pisses her off. I don't know why she thinks the character should have a chip on her shoulder, even when talking with her friends and people who she's just met, but that tone makes the character very unlikeable, not something intended by the author. Maybe it's just me, but while the subject matter is intriguing, the end result is not. Read the book instead -- I wish I had.
