Iron Kissed
Book 3 of the series continues the quality of story and production. I have really enjoyed the societies that Patricia has built. The Werewolves, Fae and Vampires all live in independent almost isolated subcultures with rules that govern them that are unique to them. Not only does the author develop her characters well, she builds a world for them to fit into that has the same depth as the characters do.
The things we do for love!
Just when it doesn't seem possible for Mercy to be able to land herself in any worse trouble than she already has, she goes and gets involved with the fae. Book 3 of the Mercy Thompson series, Iron Kissed, is one you need to brace yourself for. Mercy has always been fiercly independent and has never quite found a place to fit in. After being pursued over the last two books by two very dominant, very persistant werewolves a clear "winner" emerges here and immediately takes measures to keep Mercy safe just as he would a member of his Pack. She still doesn't quite fit in. Now that we know and have come to love this character - as well as her close friends - it is gut-wrenchingly painful to see her go through her worst sacrifice yet for the sake of friendship. Keep a box of tissues close at the end.
