Summary

The God Delusion

By: Richard Dawkins

Narrarated by: Richard Dawkins, Lalla Ward

Richard Dawkins, whom Discover magazine recently called "Darwin's Rottweiler" for his fierce and effective defense of evolution, now turns his considerable intellect on religion, denouncing its faulty logic and the suffering it causes. He eviscerates the major arguments for religion and demonstrates the supreme improbability of a supreme being. He shows how religion fuels war, foments bigotry, and abuses children, buttressing his points with historical and contemporary evidence. In so doing, he makes a compelling case that belief in God is not just irrational, but potentially deadly.

The audio book version was poor.

I am an atheist, I enjoyed the content, and I think the printed book is very good indeed. But the audio book was awful. The contrapuntal reading format was distracting. Dawkins' sound level was markedly different from Ward's. But far worse, Ward's dramatizations of quoted material were distracting, patronizing and overly prejudiced. Science should stand or fall based upon evidence and reason and should not resort to ridicule and mockery. In fact, Ward's presentation made me feel embarrassed for both readers and offended in general at this display of poor taste.
