We've had our turn. Now it's yours. One month ago, we invited everyone to submit a ballot for their ten favorite albums of the year, their three favorite artists and then one pick each for most overrated and underrated artist from 2008. We received more than 10,000 ballots, by far our biggest response to date.
We will be unveiling your picks over the course of the next week. This overall list will include 100 albums; separate lists for the EU, Canada and the UK based solely on those territories' results will also be posted next week. We ranked the votes, too: 10 points for a first place vote, 9 points for a second place, etc. We've included those point totals to give you a sense of scale. Also, more than 4,000 different albums received at least one vote. If your favorite didn't make the cut, you aren't alone. But the stuff that did paints an interesting picture of eMusic, one that is decidedly giddy about the state of indie rock, a viewpoint that we certainly share.
The commentary for each album was provided by you and your peers. Unfortunately, geniuses that we are, we forgot to ask people to supply their name with their comments. So none of these are credited, and for that we apologize. It's lame of us.
Still, this page is the perfect distillation of what the eMusic community is all about: hundreds of thousands of honest brokers making a case for their favorite albums, and thoughtfully explaining why it is that what moves them does the trick. We feel honored to even have a seat at this table, and we're just as excited as you to see what came out on top. Let's start, shall we?
