Pop Goes Kompakt!

Adding to the already substantial bounty we've received from Cologne's venerable Kompakt label comes a glut of releases that show off the (considerable) pop side of this towering techno institution. Along with the heartbeat-thump that has become a trademark Kompakt/microhouse sound, you may be surprised to hear breathy vocals (Matias Aguayo's Are You Really Lost), pop covers (Justus Köhncke doing Carly Simon; Superpitcher doing Brian Eno) and even a campy electro boogie complete with autotune (Frieland, Justus and Meloboy's "Hot Love").

Adding to the excitement is the arrival of key artist full lengths (label head Michael Mayer's Touch and the aforementioned Matias Aguayo), an eclectic batch of singles (including everything from the MFA's sparkling, near-perfect "The Difference It Makes" to the maximal electro-pop of Baxendale's "I Built This City") and some of the best compilations released under the Kompakt umbrella. An embarrassment of riches, truly. Here are some highlights from the new arrivals.
