1) What happens if I experience technical errors when downloading an album or tracks?

 

When a track or album you have purchased fails to download due to a technical problem, you can retry the download for free.

 

Go to the album page and click the yellow “retry” button: .

 

If the retry button is not visible, it means our system has delivered the download so it may just be a matter of locating the file on your system.

 

Check your “My eMusic” folder on your desktop. This is where your downloaded music and audiobooks will appear. If the file is not there, and you do not have the retry option, please fill out the form below.

2) Does eMusic allow re-downloads?

 

eMusic’s policy on re-downloads remains the same: members who experience a technical problem while downloading a track or album will be able to retry the download free of charge. If we detect a problem with a download, the download button will turn yellow: .

 

Members can click it to retry the download at no charge.

 

After a successful download, this button will appear: . Members can click it to request an additional download but will be charged for it. In the event you are unable to complete a download due to a technical problem, please contact Member Services by filling out the form below.

 

If you want to get a copy of a song onto two different computers, one at work and one at home, for example, you’ll need to do this manually, with a USB flash drive or other method to avoid being charged again. As always, we recommend you back up your downloads regularly.

3) Basic steps to download from eMusic

 

The basic steps to download from eMusic are:

 

  1. Download and install our software (Download Manager) from here.

 

  1. If our software was installed successfully, you will see a “My eMusic” folder on your computer’s desktop. This is where your downloaded music and audiobooks will appear.

 

  1. Also, please make sure that your firewall is set to allow downloading from emusic.com.

4) I am getting a “Download error”.

 

If you are seeing an error that states “Server name or address could not be found or download error”, please make sure your firewall settings are enabled to allow the eMusic Download Manager to download.

 

When a song you have purchased fails to download completely, you can retry the download by visiting the album page � you’ll see a “retry” button: .

 

If the retry download button is not visible, it means our system has successfully delivered the download so it may just be a matter of locating the file on your system. Check your “My eMusic” folder on your desktop. This is where your downloaded music and audiobooks will appear. If the file is not there, and you do not have the retry option, please fill out the form below.

 

If a song you purchased downloaded but won’t play correctly, please report the track as defective by clicking the link below the track list on the album page. In the event you are unable to complete a download due to a technical problem, please fill out the form below.

5) I have EMX files on my computer.

 

If you are seeing EMX files when download, check that your eMusic Download Manager is working properly:

 

Windows Users

Make sure you have downloaded and installed the eMusic Download Manager.

 

If you have already downloaded and installed the eMusic Download Manager and are getting EMX files when you download try these steps:

 

  1. Right-click on the EMX File.
  2. Choose “Open With…”
  3. Select “Choose Program…”
  4. Select eMusic Download Manager from the list of programs.
  5. Check the box to “Always open this type of file with this program.”
  6. Select OK.
  7. Try again to play your track.

 

Mac Users

 

If you’re seeing EMX files when you try to download music or audiobooks, first make sure you have downloaded and installed the eMusic Download Manager.

 

If you have already downloaded and installed the eMusic Download Manager but you get EMX files when you download, try these steps:

 

  1. Control-click (or right-click) on the EMX file on your desktop. A menu will appear.
  2. Choose “Get Info”. The information window will appear.
  3. Under the “Open With:” section, select eMusic Download Manager from the drop down menu and click on the “Change All…” button to set the eMusic Download Manager to manage your downloads.
  4. Please try your download again. You will not be charged for any re-downloads.

eMusic Remote users:

 

We no longer support eMusic Remote and strongly recommend all eMusic Remote users switch to the latest version of the eMusic Download Manager. The latest version of the eMusic Download Manager (4.1.4) incorporates eMusic Remote’s primary benefit: auto-syncing your downloads with your favorite music player, including iTunes, WinAmp, and Windows Media Player.

 

To switch from eMusic Remote to the new eMusic Download Manager please first do a full uninstall of eMusic Remote. Then install the current Download Manager.

 

The latest version of the eMusic Download Manager incorporates eMusic Remote’s primary benefit: auto-syncing* your downloads with your favorite music player, including iTunes and Windows Media Player.

 

To switch from eMusic Remote to the new eMusic Download Manager please first uninstall eMusic Remote by dragging its icon to the trash. Then close your browser and install the current eMusic Download Manager.

6) Trouble with eMusic Download Manager

 

If you are having difficulty, your problem might be remedied by uninstalling the eMusic Download Manager completely, and then reinstalling it.

 

Windows Users

 

Please make sure that your Windows temp directory, cache, and Temporary Internet Files directory are empty prior to re-installing our software. It may also help to reboot your computer prior to un-installing and re-installing.

 

To uninstall eMusic Download Manager:

 

  1. Go to Start, then Control Panel.
  2. Open the Add/Remove Programs control panel.
  3. Highlight eMusic Download Manager from the list.
  4. Click the Remove button.

 

To reinstall eMusic Download Manager:

 

  1. Visit the following link to re-download the installer: /dlm/download.html

 

  1. A file called eMusic Download Manager.exe will be downloaded to your computer. Find this file and double-click on it to re-install the application.

 

Mac Users

 

Please make sure that your cache and Temporary Internet Files directory are empty prior to re-installing our software. It may also help to reboot your computer prior to un-installing and re-installing.

 

To uninstall eMusic Download Manager:

 

  1. Visit the Applications folder on your hard drive and trash the file named “eMusic Download Manager”.

 

  1. Trash the “com.emusic.Remote.plist” preferences file from the following directory: Macintosh HD -> Users -> “yourname” -> Library -> Preferences.

 

To reinstall eMusic Download Manager:

 

  1. Visit our download page and download the latest version of eMusic Download Manager for Mac OS X: /dlm/download.html

 

  1. The installation should begin automatically. If it does not, double-click on the installation file you downloaded. It should look like a disk drive and be named “eMusic Download Manager”.

 

  1. Double click on the “Install eMusic Download Manager icon to start the installation.

 

  1. After installing eMusic Download Manager, it may help to manually start the DLM one time by double-clicking on the Program icon located in the Macintosh HD –> Applications folder.

 

  1. Now login to eMusic and attempt to download by clicking on a download button.

 

IMPORTANT:
Please make certain all programs, including your web browser, are closed before you attempt to install eMusic Download Manager.
