About Concord Jazz

Carl Jefferson, one of Concord, California's most prominent citizens, was among the most successful car dealers in the nation, and a total, unabashed jazz nut. In 1972, several years after he founded the internationally famous Concord Jazz Festival, 53 year-old Jefferson sold his Ford Motors dealership at a huge profit to admittedly start "the jazz label I can never find in record stores."

Since then, Concord Jazz has continued as the label of choice for countless other grateful jazz fans the world-over, and indelibly established itself as one of the most critically applauded, highest quality and best selling jazz record companies in the history of the art form. Named "Best Independent Jazz Label of the Year" by The Gavin Report from 1996 thru 1999, Concord maintains its acclaimed position as a pinnacle jazz label that sets standards of taste, success, excellence and accessibility for jazz connoisseurs and initiates everywhere with its present and ever-expanding catalog of over 900 releases and 13 Grammy awards (from nearly 100 nominations).
