"Many eons ago, I hosted two shows on a href= http://witr.rit.edu/ WITR Radio /a , RIT, Rochester New York.
Here is a collection of songs and/or artists I used to love to play that I've rediscovered through e-music.
I'm sticking to one track per artist (just like a real radio show), but in most cases, the albums and artists hav lots of other great stuff.
Albums are listed at the top, with individual rec'd tracks below.
This is a work in progress."

Hey -- What happened to the original cover-art :-(

Grant-Lee remakes a bunch of 80s "hits" into a stripped-down, Americana type sound. Sure, its a gimmick, but it works!

When I started college radio, "alternative" just meant anything you wouldn't hear on commercial radio. A few years later, when I stopped, it became a genre in an of itself, with commercial radio stations to support it. This was one of those "alternative" hits.

Early track, before the breakthrough hit, "Elvis is Everywhere". Cold-war humor -- them were the good ol' days.

Classic early track from the Cowboy Junkies. Not the original recording, but every bit as good.

I think I played this on my first show, ever.

A "left-of-the-dial" classic.

Imagine something like the Bangles if they didn't suck. Can't believe I found this here

Early hints of the Pixies "accessible" side. This track is a classic -- one of my favorites, then, and now.

The Minutemen were before my time, but I did get to see fireHOSE in the late 80's. Mike Watt. Just, wow!

These guys were known for their annoyingly monotonous tunes and hysterical lyrics. They later had a hit with "Detachable Penis", but as far as I'm concerned, they sold out when they started using chord-changes. This song is funny, but the sample consists only of a single-chord acoustic guitar part and kazoo solo.

Good track from one of Lou Reed's best "later" albums.

Brilliant song. BTW this album contains all (or at least mostly) originals, unlike a lot of "retro" compilations you'll find.

NO late-80s college radio show would be complete without a SMITHS track

aka "Shirley". Too hard to pick just one BB song, but this is the "If I had to choose..." track

Another later cover, but a great version of a great song

World Party -- a project by Karl Wallinger, also of Waterboys fame

This was always one of my favorits to spin, though "birdhouse" is probably more well known.

Not as Big as a hit as "Love Removal Machine", but more college-radio-y

Saw these guys at "Club Baby Head" in Providence, RI
